My name is Luke, a PhD student from the University of New South Wales, Australia. I’m all about asking questions on how invasive species make it from tiny larvae in the ocean, to reproductive adults, who then outcompete our Australian natives to become the major players on temperate rocky reefs. I also have an interest in the the impacts humans are having on our estuaries, particularly the role sediment contamination has on estuarine ecosystems. Issues of scientific communication and public debate is particularly fascinating. We seem to be at the brink of an ‘Environmental Revolution’, yet the government still ignores much of what we have to say. This problem is compounded by the government taking much more notice of environmental advocacy groups and less notice to environmental scientists. Like my colleagues, I still have hope…but it fades rapidly.
